“This is a movie about love, hope, faith and forgiveness. He [Jesus] died for all mankind, suffered for all of us. It’s time to get back to that basic message. The world has gone nuts. We could all use a little more love, faith, hope and forgiveness.”
I really can’t decide whether this is a movie review. The movie is centred around the events that took place from Jesus’ prayer at Gethsemane to his crucifixion – his resurrection, actually. I did notice though, that some lines were different from the scriptures. I enjoyed the use of flashback. I also enjoyed the fact that the movie explored Jesus’ earthly relationship – his mum especially. Then, there is this part where he is actually a carpenter, making a table. For his family and friends, it wasn’t just Jesus the Messiah they lost, he was a son, a brother, a friend, etc
Then, there is the beating. Oh I kept on wincing. I didn’t cry though. I know a lot of people who cried. I remember churches using this movie at their various crusades when it was just released. Anyway, I think human beings are capable of immeasurable cruelty and it scares me. History is replete (okay, that’s an exaggeration) with various events – Slavery, the Holocaust, Colonialism, and even some scary African tradition like human sacrifices. Honestly, this was the same Messiah that these same people had spread out palm fronds and their garments for. The next thing, they are choosing a murderer over him and asking that he should be crucified. Human beings are very scary. Then the acrimonious High Priest and the Pharisees who were supposed to be religious leaders were out to draw blood, literally.
But I didn’t understand somethings as well –
I do have to add though that if Jesus was born in this age, he would have sounded like he had schizophrenia or illusions of grandeur and then Human rights activists would have had a field day.
The movie is well a movie, but the unedited version is in the Scriptures.
What I am saying is it was a good movie – graphic, riveting even. But you need more than the Passion of the Christ to grasp the true essence of Easter.
P.S I hope you enjoy the pictures. The capture image option on my video player is ‘it’.
