He who finds a [[a]true and faithful] wife finds a good thing and obtains favor and approval from the Lord [Provs 18:22 AMP]What this means is that as a single lady you do not become a wife because you get married, you become a wife before you get married

Lady in Waiting by Gbeminiyi Obadan

Yes, you are so right, this is a book review and yes, no spoilers. The book Lady in Waiting was written by a wonderful  young woman called Gbeminiyi Obadan, who also happens to be a lawyer and blogs at . The book is a ten day devotional for single ladies. One thing I have learnt, and the central theme of this book, is that perfection/fulfillment/contentment can only be found in God, not in finding that Prince Charming or Knight in Shining Armour or Tall Dark and Handsome. God is interested in matters of your heart, and emotions, and he wants to be involved in your relationship as well. Do you think you should wait for your husband? What would you be doing while waiting? Does God really care about what I my feelings? Is God concerned about my relationships? If you have been asking yourselves these questions, this ten day devotional is a starting point.

So, what I did was to bring out a quote from each chapter of the devotional, which kind of hits the nail on the head, and they are ten reasons why you should take the next ten days to read this book.

On being a Vessel unto Honour:

The thing about vessels unto honour and dishonor is that they both have uses since they are both vessels

On who the Single Lady should aspire to be:

He who finds a [[a]true and faithful] wife finds a good thing and obtains favor and approval from the Lord [Provs 18:22 AMP

On what it means to be a HelpMeet

Think of yourself as Man2.0, the updated version, not an afterthought by God or a weakling.

On what submission means:

Let your single life be a training ground for submission as you yield to God’s instruction daily.

On the seemingly ordinary fruit of the Garden of Eden:

That is exactly what sin does to man. It gives a false impression of knowledge and makes us believe that we are wise.

On what Love really means:

The way I see it, if you cannot learn to love Christ first and reciprocate this love to others, loving a man or being in love is going to be difficult.

On making relationship decisions:

We trust and hear God on certain issues, but when it comes to relationships, we suddenly imagine He will go on vacation, and decide to use our eyes like Samuel, to gauge how fine he is, his car, his nice dressing, and totally ignore the heart which is the most important one the one God sees.

On what to do with all your emotions:

God created you and created all the hormones that are responsible for your emotions, instead of trying to hide them or putting up a hard front go to Him in prayers and ask Him for strength and wisdom to manage it. He is the best Counsellor money cannot buy.

On why you should wait:

The thing with a lot of us is that we always feel we are ready, we don’t wait for God to form us and then lead us before we go hopping around from people to people.

On letting God write your story:

It is not for you to use your sharp girl sense to ‘hook’ anybody or begin to surf the internet for tips on how to get the perfect guy.

I think I have practically written the whole book again. Lool. There is just so much depth in there – every sentence is a potential quote. Apart from one or two typographical errors and a couple of repetition, it is earnest, relatable, and not preachy. It goes straight to the point, and the prayers were simple but profound. The devotional is written in such a way that it conveys depth without being oblique

I will love to end this post with another quote from the book:

The Bible records that after God formed Eve, the next thing He did was to LEAD her to Adam. God brought them together. It was after that that Adam declared Eve as the bone of the bone and the flesh of his flesh. Without God telling Adam what to do or giving him any hint, he knew she was formed for him and from him.
