Charm and grace are deceptive, and [superficial] beauty is vain,
But a woman who fears the Lord [reverently worshiping, obeying, serving, and trusting Him with awe-filled respect], she shall be praised.
Who is she?
An excellent woman
She is spiritual, capable, intelligent, and virtuous,
Her value is more precious than jewels;
Her worth is far above rubies or pearls.
She is Abigail
When she speaks, her words are wise
Extended by one day
Prevented from commiting murder.
She is Deborah
She is clothed with strength
She is not afraid of the future
A prophet and a Judge
Going to war for Israel
With cowardly and faithless Barak
She is Dorcas
Her hands ever outstretched to the needy,
Her arms refuge for the poor
Brought her back
Made others believe
In Peter’s God
She is Esther
Dressed in Fine linen and Purple gown
Beautiful on the outside
Fearless yet fearing the Lord
Submitting to His will
Ready to die for her people
‘If I perish, I perish.’
She is you, and you.
She is here, and there.
She is real.
You are real
There are many virtuous women
Outside these walls,
And capable too,
But you, yes you, surpass them all.
P.S I had written this poem for our sister’s weekend in Church. It is befitting to however share it here. The past few days have been the birthdays of a number of the virtuous women that I know. Happy Birthday Akuegbu Adaeze, Anyika Chineze, Famuyibo Ojuolape, and Igbinosun Bertha. You are all amazing! God bless you and keep you. May you remain a source of favour to everyone around you (Amen.)
